Highway 127 Finds

This past weekend, I went out to hunt for treasures on the World's Longest Yard Sale. This year the sale ran from Michigan all the way down to Alabama.

First up, is this little piano, music box. I scooped this up for only $3!

This is made in Japan. As you can see from the photos, it's covered in gold trim. Some of the gold is fading, but that doesn't distract from the beauty of this box.

On top of the piano, lovers are resting in a pastoral setting. Inside, the music box is lined in yellow with space to store a trinket or two or even a little love note.

 

Then I was lucky enough to find two planters. The first one is this little donkey wearing a blue hat.

 

I really couldn't believe my luck when I found this elephant planter. I love elephants. Wherever I travel, I try to pick up one as a souvenir keepsake, so I have quite a large collection of elephants.

Here is my little cow creamer. She's stamped Japan on the bottom. I think she's adorable. I've been wanting one of these for awhile, but each time I've found one, something's been wrong with it such as a chip or crack. I was really excited to find one in perfect condition.

 

I love to take pictures of the 127 sale. This year, I accidentally left my camera at home, but here are a couple of pictures from last year's sale.

 

Below is my favorite kind of vendor. You never know what treasures await when the tables are loaded down with so much stuff.

 

The vendor below didn't sell this three-wheeled bike last year. I know because he had it out again this year. I know I've been to this sale too many times, when I start to recognize the sellers.

Vintage Prints

I found these lovely prints sometime ago at a flea market. They've been stored away in the basement and I just recently rediscovered them.

I've dropped this one a few times and the print is now crooked inside the frame. I'll have to figure out a way to remove the back, to straighten the picture, so that I don't damage the backing.

I like to think this fellow below is asking his love to dance. He even has a little bird on his shoulder. Next to her, someone is playing a flute or similar musical instrument.

This scene reminds me of Marie-Antoinette during her "cottage years" at Versailles.

I think these scenes are prints from larger paintings. They're quite fun and offer a glimpse into another world.

The framed art pieces measure roughly 6.25"H x 5"W. The frames are made from a molded resin and created to look like wooden frames. The back is also resin (or maybe plastic).

Vintage Thingie Thursday- Reversible Jumper

Welcome to Vintage Thingie Thursday hosted by Suzanne at The Colorado Lady.

A few weeks ago, my mom gave me some clothing that she'd kept from my birth through my toddler years. This delightful jumper was one of the items.

My grandmother made this for me when I was a toddler.

This little dress is a reversible jumper. It's fully lined between the two designs. And very heavy!

 

For the front, my grandmother cut out the boy and girl characters from the printed material and then sewed them onto the yellow fabric.

This jumper is definitely a keepsake that I'll always treasure.

Syroco Wall Plaques

Last month, my sister convinced me to go with her to an antique mall about an hour south of us. I expected to find a rinky dink, kind of place, with nothing good. Wow, was I ever wrong! Good stuff abounded everywhere!

I found these two wall plaques that I thought would look great hanging in my bedroom.

They're approximately 15 inches long.

The Victorian styled plaques are molded from plastic. They're made by the company, Syroco, originally based in Syracuse, NY. I'd probably date these to the late, late 60s - mid 70s.

Another item that I found was this scrap of material. I love fabric with vintage themes and people scenes.

The colors are a perfect match for my living room, so I'll be turning this into a pillow for the couch or one of the chairs. I just need a quick trip to the fabric store for the backing and then I'll be all set!

Vintage Finds

Last week, I attended the World's Longest Yard Sale.  The sale started on Thursday and lasted until Sunday. Though I loaded up on sunblock, I had too much sun on Thursday, which meant no yard sales for me on Friday. On Saturday, my mom and I hit the sales.

Here are some of the things that I found.

First up, is Anchor Hocking's Fire King. I found this sweet little bowl for fifty cents. It's the perfect size for beating eggs in.

Next is a set of four Fire King tea trays with matching cups. All are in excellent condition for their age. AH made this Primrose pattern from 1960-1962.

And I even scored the matching creamer. No sugar bowl though.

From the same vendor as the tea trays, I bought this Kodak Starflash Brownie camera. This camera was made from March 1957 to June 1965.

And I found it in its original box, which as you can see is very dirty. I haven't cleaned any of my finds yet. Everything always looks better once cleaned!

Inside the box was this instruction manual for the Kodak Duaflex II camera.

Now, my favorite thing that I bought last weekend is this three shelf, cart on wheels, trolley. I love it and I only paid $2.50 for it. I'll be taking it apart soon {the shelves are screwed into place} and repainting it. I haven't decided on what color yet, but probably not white. It looks a little too hospital-ly with the white shelves for me.

A Vintage Find & the World's Longest Yard Sale

I found this item at a thrift shop for $3.00. The bowl is a beautiful green color with no chips or cracks.

The glass bowl is being lifted up by a cherub with a fish tail--   a mer-cherub!

I think he's made of brass. I've never seen a cherub like this before. There's no markings anywhere on him or the bowl. I've searched the internet for something similar, but so far, no luck.

I love his round little belly and belly button.

I don't know if you've heard, but the World's Longest Yard Sale begins this weekend, from Thursday through Sunday. I'm so excited! Needless to say, I'll be yard-saling all weekend long.

The sale follows Highway 127, from Michigan to Alabama, going through Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. Thousands of people set up each year to sell their items.



Look at all this glass!

I don't really like to buy from antique dealers as the prices are usually too high. Though sometimes I do get lucky. However, I love when I come across "regular" people selling stuff.



I like to take a few things with me when I yard sale: a magnet, (a magnet won't stick to silver), measuring tape, anti-germy wipes, sunblock and lots of cash! And, of course, the most important thing of all, my list of what I need.

Royal Minster Tea Cup and Saucer Set

Hello Everyone and Welcome! 

Don't you just love summer? I do! Even though this year's been a scorcher. I think this is the hottest summer we've had in a long time. The temperature has been 100+ for the last three weeks or so.

Today's tea cup and saucer set is by Royal Minster of England. It features beautiful yellow flowers, a few small white flowers and some lovely, green leaves. I even suffered the heat to take the pictures outside.

This little gal decided to join in on the action. She's been so bored this summer, she needed to get out and have some fun!

They're resting in my neighbor's tree, which sits in between our backyards. When their doggies started barking at me, J came to the back door to see what was going on. I called out, I'm borrowing your tree for a few minutes. Lol... I love when my neighbors catch me doing crazy things!

I love this raised design around the bottom of the cup. A variation of it can also be found on the saucer.
